The Trendspotter: July 2026

BY KELSEY HEINTZ

We’re back again with your monthly dose of must-know news, The Trendspotter! This content series features monthly roundups of the newest and hottest businesses (namely, restaurants, bars, and then some!) around RVA.

The only thing hotter than these Richmond-summer temps are the new neighbors in town.

Trolley Car Sweets & Treats

What it is: An international candy experience now available in the River City

Why we love it: Trolley Car Sweets & Treats is officially open on Strawberry St, doling out 100 rotating sweet-treat varieties with an emphasis on Scandinavian sweets, including unique flavors and textures that aren't usually found in America. “Happiness by the handful” is right — we can practically taste the gummies already.

Where to find it: 407 Strawberry St (The Fan)

Cicada’s

What it is: The next concept to set up shop in the old City Dogs spot

Why we love it: This building, in partic, has seen a few turnarounds, so we’re always looking forward to something moving in and sticking around for a while. The three local restaurant vets behind the project are aiming for something affordable, unfussy, and welcoming with a menu of sandwiches, burgers, wraps, salads, appetizers, plus Carolina-style Bird Dogs and options for vegetarians and gluten-free diners.

Where to find it: 1316 E Cary St (Shockoe Slip)

Danger Pie

What it is: A little slice of danger we’re happy to get into

Why we love it: It’s a few of our favorite things in one place. Danger Pie has announced plans to launch an extended residency at Blanchard’s Morris St location. The coffee shop will continue operating as usual during its regular hours, while Danger Pie will make pizzas during the hours the coffee shop is closed.

North End Juice Co

What it is: An old favorite, revamped just a bit

Why we love it: North End Juice Co was seemingly having a rough go a few months back, and given its big following in the area, we’re glad the folks behind Hardywood were happy to help smooth things over — and add a brew option to the menu, to boot.

Where to find it: 718 N Cleveland St (Museum District)

Shyndigz - Vending Machine

What it is: An 24/7 extension to one of the city’s most mouth-watering dessert spots

Why we love it: We’ve always wished we could have access to Shyndigz *anytime* a craving hits, and now we can. If you need a sweet treat on, say, a Monday or a late night (or you just want your regular-hours cake run to be lowkey), you can stop by the outside cooler of sorts stocked with cakes and then some.

Where to find it: 1912 W Cary St (The Fan)
