Kava Club

What it is: Richmond’s first kava club

Why we love it: Kava — the drink that’s taken metropolitan cities by storm over the last decade — is a non-alcoholic beverage prepared from the kava kava plant's root. It’s known for its calming and sociable effects — greatly helping people with social anxiety.

Kava Club will feature designated workspaces, free Wi-Fi, games, a pool table, darts, and other entertainment to enjoy while you’re sippin’ kava. It’s the perfect hangout for sober fun.

Where to find it: 1529 W Main St (The Fan)

Elegant Cuizines

What it is: A spot for elevated West African fusion eats

Why we love it: When you’re eating a rainbow of color in your food, you know you’re eatin’ good. And if you’re looking for a bite that satisfies your taste for authentic West African cuisine, look no further. Elegant Cuizines was created from a love for nourishing the body with good food. They offer brunch (even vegan options!), lunch, and dinner with a rotating menu.

Where to find it: 415 W Grace St (Monroe Ward)

Lakay Zaz

What it is: A Haitian/Caribbean restaurant

Why we love it: It’s a culinary blend of culture, ingredients, and cooking philosophies spanning from African and French to Spanish and Arab. The food here is strong and spice-heavy. Rice, fresh fish, beans, plantains, yams, and other readily available eats are the foundation of Haitian cuisine at Lakay Zaz. Check them out for catering opportunities or at one of their twice-per-month pop-ups!

Where to find it: 2845 Hathaway Rd (Forest Hill)

Brick House Diner

What it is: A family-owned diner featuring burgers, sandwiches, and other comfort foods

Why we love it: Brick House Diner is a goldmine of unique spins on traditional diner food. Check out their nachos, for example. They feature toppings like feta, mozzarella, pepperoncini peppers, olives, tomatoes, gyro meat, and tzatziki sauce. Or, try their pizza burger, influenced by everyone’s [ahem, my!] favorite food.

Where to find it: 3336 N Arthur Ashe Blvd (Scott’s Addition)

Scott’s Shawarma

What it is: A Middle Eastern takeout spot

Why we love it: Authentic Middle Eastern cuisine can be hard to come by — combine that with great prices and a nearly flawless Google review history, and you’re looking at a unicorn.

Scott’s Shawarma is that unicorn. Known for their delicious shawarma, customers enjoy the customization options like chicken, beef, or lamb and their preferred toppings and sauces. Get everything you want here and more!

Where to find it: 1400 Roseneath Rd (Scott’s Addition)
