Need Something Green? Try These 10 Richmond Spots for a Crisp & Tasty Salad

BY CHRISTINE WINDER

Salads often get a bad rap for being boring, but sometimes you just need something green. Luckily, our food scene is anything but basic. Yes, even when it comes to salads. So, whether you’re craving something nutritious or it’s hot AF and you need a refreshing meal, here’s the rundown on where to get the best salad in Richmond.

Union Market

Union Market’s Miso Sesame Salad has developed a bit of a cult following thanks to its mix of greens, crunchy veggies, and savory-sweet sesame dressing that keeps you wanting more. Grab one to-go and head up to Libby Hill Park for what might be the most Church Hill lunch imaginable.

Garnett’s

You may know and love Garnett’s for their sandwiches (same), but don’t sleep on their salads. They're fresh, generously portioned, and substantial enough that you won't immediately find yourself snacking an hour later. Pair one with a glass of $3 wine during happy hour and a slice of their homemade pie, and you’ve got yourself a very respectable meal.

Stella’s

Leave it to Stella’s to have salads that make you feel like you’re on a luxurious Greek vacation. Their salads like the Cypriot and Black Kale are made with fresh, mediterranean-inspired ingredients, and of course you can’t go wrong with their classic Greek salad.

Pro tip: Their markets also have grab-and-go salads for when you’re in a hurry but still need your Stella’s fix.

Pinky’s

Pinky's has mastered the art of making healthy food feel fun. Their salads are colorful, packed with texture, and unlike anything else you’ve probably had. We highly recommend their Caesar on the Coast if you want a classic Caesar but even better or their Spring Harvest Salad if you want something fresh and original.

Joe’s Inn

Joe's Inn has been quietly serving one of Richmond’s most beloved Greek salads for decades. Loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, olives, feta, pepperoncini, and their house Greek dressing, it's the kind of salad you dream about until you can order it again.

Little Nickel

Little Nickel is proof that salads don’t have to taste ~healthy~. Their chopped salads are full of bold citrus, fresh herbs, and tropical flavors, making them seem more like vacation food than health food. If you're ordering one, we'd strongly encourage pairing it with a seasonal cocktail because balance.

Hobnob

Lakesiders know that Hobnob is the place to go for a light yet filling meal. Their salads are generously portioned with plenty of toppings, protein, and flavors to keep things interesting. Most of their salads are also gluten free, which is a win in our book.

Wood + Iron

Don’t let this sports bar fool you. They may serve up beer and wings, but they also have a full menu of fresh salads. We especially love the Fried Goat Cheese and Mixed Berry, Southwestern Frito, and Buffalo Caesar salads. Fair warning, their portions are huge so prepare to split one with a friend or take the rest home to enjoy later.
