Where Richmond Singles Actually Meet in the City

Our city is practically designed for serendipitous encounters — you just have to know where to stand. Here are some of my favorite spots to meet someone offline, where the vibes are high and the population is very, very single and cute!
And an IRL tip for starters: Put your phone away! Richmond is the city of “Hey, how’s it going?” or “That is the cutest dog!” Keep your head up and your heart open!

RVA First Fridays
On the first Friday of every month, the Arts District turns into a giant block party, and the whole city shows up.
The Vibe: Electric. The galleries are open, the street performers are out, and the energy is contagious, giving everyone the opportunity to openly explore new environments without a formal invitation.
Why you should try it: Broad St and Jackson Ward become a giant “meet-and-greet.” Because everyone is walking from gallery to gallery, you’re constantly crossing paths with new people. Pop into a shop, grab a cocktail or appetizer at a local favorite bar, and let the art do the heavy lifting for your opening line.

VMFA
After 5 Friday
This could possibly be the crown jewel of Richmond dating. When the weather is right, the VMFA lawn transforms into the city’s largest outdoor living room.
The Vibe: After 5 Fridays brings out a mix of everyone — art lovers, picnickers, wine drinkers, card players, music lovers, and very Richmond dog owners.
Why you should try it: It’s low-pressure. Bringing a blanket is an open invitation for a neighbor to ask for a bottle opener or comment on your Garnett’s spread. It’s the ultimate “see and be seen” spot in RVA.
Dominion Energy Jazz Café
If you want something a bit more ~grown and sexy~, the VMFA’s jazz series is the place to be.
The Vibe: Sophisticated, sultry, and soulful.
Why you should try it: Music is a universal language of love. Standing near the bar or finding a spot at the communal tables makes it easy to strike up a conversation. It attracts a crowd that values culture and conversation.

Brambly Park
Nestled in the back of Scott’s Addition, this two-acre winery and park is basically a playground for adults.
The Vibe: Outdoorsy, neighborhood-centered, and high-energy.
Why you should try it: With fire pits and plenty of space to roam, Brambly Park is built for mingling. Whether you’re there for live music or just a glass of RVA-made spirits, the layout encourages connection and community.

Carena’s Jamaican Grille
If you want a meet-cute with a side of world-class jerk chicken, this is your spot. Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Carena’s brings a slice of the Caribbean to Southside, and the energy is unmatched.
The Vibe: Authentic, vibrant, and always soulful. When the music starts during happy hour, you can’t help but get lost in it.
Why you should try it: The island vibe softens Richmond’s (sometimes) “too cool” facade. The food alone will be a high-five situation for anyone who gets their hands on those oxtails.
