Hello again!
I kinda felt like it was taking a minute, but the season’s colors are POPPING now. I’ve been spending time these last couple of weeks rolling around town (with an occasional drive-by to North End Juice Co), snapping shots of Richmond in fall for some of our content, and boy, is she showing off these days.
That pic up there is from Westhampton Lake at University of Richmond. In case you haven’t been, there are chairs lined up in the grassy areas alongside the lake and plenty of room to spread out (and even go fishing!) to take in a few breaths of fresh air while you ooo and ahhh over the gorgeous sights. Highly recommend you take a spin yourself before things start to get too bare over the next month.

Here’s the dill. The inaugural three-day Richmond Pickle Party kicks off this Friday, November 6, at Gallery5, bringing together local pickle and fermented-food vendors; a pickle-themed art exhibition; a community pickling competition; and even pickle-inspired menu specials, bouquets, and flash tattoos. The weekend-long celebration is all about pickles, preservation, and embracing the wonderfully weird things that make Richmond Richmond. (Style Weekly)
Also happening Friday, the Richmond VA Medical Center is hosting a free Veterans Day Resource Fair for veterans interested in connecting with representatives from VA programs and services. The event will also include activities recognizing those who served and takes place from 11 am to 1 pm at the medical center's first-floor multipurpose room. (Henrico Citizen)
Richmond's Christmas Parade has been kicking off the holiday season for generations, dating all the way back to 1930 when Thalhimers first introduced its Street Parade of Toys. This year marks the 43rd annual parade, with a brand-new route beginning at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU before heading down Broad St on Saturday, December 5. From its early days to today's massive community tradition, the parade continues to bring together thousands of families, volunteers, marching bands, floats, and, of course, legendary Santa. Good news for Texas Beach regulars. The pedestrian bridge connecting the Maymont neighborhood to the James River is open for the first time since September 2022, following a $2 mil repair project. There is still some finishing work to complete, though, so the bridge may temporarily close again without notice before its official reopening and ribbon-cutting. (The Richmonder)
Need to furnish an office or just love a good bargain? The State Surplus Sale is back for one day only this Saturday, November 7, from 8 am to 2 pm, with discounted office chairs, desks, tables, sofas, bookcases, and more.
