Hello, you!

To start this week, I moseyed over to Jack Brown’s for Jack Brown’s Run Club night. No, I didn’t run — but I did enjoy my regular order of the Elvis and fries once my husband finished his route. The club meets every Monday at 6 pm, and afterward, if you participate, you get 20% off your tab, so there are endorphins and delish burgers in it for you.

If you’re looking for more of that kinda thing, there are quite a few run clubs that have popped up around the area:

🏃804 Run Club — hosting runs from Hardywood Park Craft Brewery on Wednesdays at 5:45 pm for runners, joggers, walkers, and everyone in between

🏃Black Girls RUN! — encourages and motivates black women to practice a healthy lifestyle, serving as a fitness resource for runners and gym rats alike, as well as providing tips and commentary on staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle

🏃Black Men Run — encourages African American males to get out and be active

🏃Effect Run Club — built on community, not pace, hosting runs from 3121 W Broad St on Tuesdays at 6:30 am, Thursdays at 6 pm, and Saturdays at 7:30 am

🏃Richmond Road Runners Club — sponsors races, helps other organizations put on races, coaches training teams, supports kids' running programs, supports a variety of group runs, and awards academic scholarships to college-bound runner athletes

🏃Richmond Trail Running Club — provides an inclusive and welcoming space for runners to build community, challenge themselves, and explore local outdoor spaces, offering a Group Run Calendar where members can post group runs, hikes, or outings

🏃River City Run Club — a non-judgmental running club whose mission is to share the power of running as a tool to promote health and wellness, both physically and mentally, hosting runs from 1601 Willow Lawn Dr on Mondays at 5:30 pm

🏃Track Starr Run Club — hosts 5K and 10K runs from Starr Hill Beer Hall & Rooftop on Tuesdays at 6 pm, followed by happy hour from 7 to 9 pm, where runners get $1 off pints

🏃WeOffTheCouch — aspires to provide a positive running experience centered on camaraderie, fitness, fun, and life

RICHMONDER TO KNOW

Brie Hayden: She’s a self-taught artist who’s garnered attention for her hyperrealistic drawings of antique bottles — including from one Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who commissioned three pieces to rep his tequila brand. Brie’s meticulous work is so precise, many fans initially mistake her drawings for photographs. Have your mind blown here.

SOCIAL NEWS

More Chocolate Covered Orange for us (we hope?)!: Nightingale Ice Cream is prepping for a major expansion with a new 29,000-square-foot facility in Southside later this year or early next. With this development, the spot, which now produces 80,000 to 100,000 sandwiches daily, expects to triple or quadruple that output after relocating. To cover this project’s equipment, real estate, and other expenses, Nightingale is investing $5.8 mil and adding around 160 new employees to its crew. In the meantime, you can continue to find the delish confections in local markets along with Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Fresh Market, and Kroger. (Richmond BizSense)

Where to eat dinner this week: Southern Living recently highlighted its editors' picks for the best new restaurants across the South in 2025, featuring 20 standout spots that reflect a diverse range of flavors, cultures, and culinary creativity, and including two Richmond favorites — Beaucoup and Cochiloco. Each selected restaurant brings something unique to its city, whether it’s innovative takes on regional favorites, global influences, or elevated comfort food, and the list also celebrates chefs who are honoring local ingredients, telling cultural stories through their menus, and creating welcoming spaces for their communities. For Beaucoup, SL cited its “French-inspired menu [with] comforting dishes including a classic burger, catfish frites, and rotating specials like a softshell crab sandwich or scallop rolls;” for Cochiloco, the pub cited the spot’s “agua frescas, horchata, and creative batched cocktails made with ingredients like prickly pear juice, guava nectar, or hibiscus,” and tells readers to, “Save room for the tacos dorados, a potato-fried dish inspired by a Benavides family recipe.” (Southern Living)

If you’re flying out of Richmond around the holiday season, look for Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and The Beet Box before you head to your gate. Richmond International Airport is enhancing its offerings with the food and bev vendors by the end of 2025 (along with a Wolfgang Puck Bar & Bites restaurant). When the time comes, you can find Hardywood located in Concourse A near gates A-15 and A-16, and The Beet Box — with plans for a café and kiosk, as well as a full-service bar and lounge with a grab-and-go area — in Concourse A near gates A-8 and A-11. Work out and wear orange. Child Care Aware of Virginia is hosting its Lace Up for Firearm Safety event, a virtual 5K happening now through June 7. Registrants are encouraged to donate $20 to the cause and complete the 3.1-mile distance at their convenience, choosing their own routes and methods, whether walking, running, hiking, or using a treadmill. The org also wants folks to wear orange to support safe firearm storage and share photos of their workout on social media with the hashtag #laceup4firearmsafety, promoting firearm safety and preventing children's access to firearms by raising awareness and providing resources to ensure firearms are stored securely and out of children's reach. The race coincides with Wear Orange 2025, too, which honors victims of gun violence and builds community with those working to end the epidemic. (Child Care Aware of Virginia)

Going once… Now through June 16, the Richmond Public Schools Education Foundation is hosting Celebrate RPS, a citywide online auction that supports transformative educational programs within the River City’s school system. Funds raised will go to high-quality training to support, recruit, and retain exceptional educators; career and technical education programs that equip students with essential skills for success; and the Passion4Learning initiative, which includes redesigning all five comprehensive high schools and launching a state-of-the-art Technical Center in a 288,000-square-foot facility donated by Altria. The auction includes loads of bid-worthy items, like Garnett’s Design Your Sandwich Day, an Exclusive Rare Bourbon Tasting Party, and more than 60 others. (Richmond Ed Fund)
