Your Spring 2026 Bucket List

“The earth laughs in flowers,” says Ralph Waldo Emerson, but that’s only one of the wonderful things about spring around Richmond.
Pop an antihistamine if you need it and peep some blossoms. Peak bloom in Richmond tends to happen in late March, and we’ve got a few favorite spots to take in the stems.
Root, root, root for the home team(s). Richmond Ivy, Richmond Flying Squirrels, and Richmond Kickers all play throughout the spring season. Grab a cold one, get some merch, and have yourself ~a ball~.
Picnic in the park. Few things send a rush of dopamine to our brains like lying out in the grass on a sunny day, and we know the best spaces to do just that.
Enjoy a patio or rooftop sipper. Okay, okay, so maybe snagging a cold one or two on a favorite patio sends an even bigger rush. Wave when you see us at Blue Atlas, Jardin, and Pinky’s.
Visit a historic site. There’s never a bad time to do this in RVA, but spring is especially time to shine for local icons like Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Agecroft Hall & Gardens, and Maymont — and you know we’d never talk you out of a walkabout on the grounds of VMFA, VMHC, and SMOV either.
Catch the sunset. The sun stays out later and later now, and a great way to make the most of that feast for the eyes is by heading to these viewing spots at golden hour.
Hit the trails. Leave your puffer behind (finally!), and check in with nature here.
Visit a farmers market. Now’s the time to stock up on asparagus, leafy greens, berries, and other seasonal gems, and the South of the James Farmers Market and RVA Big Market have all that and way more.
Catch some live music. Brambly Park and River City Roll are just two of our go-to places to enjoy a stellar soundtrack with our good eatin’, game play, and then some. Of course, seeing the Alabama Shakes kick off Allianz Amphitheater’s second season would also be one helluva way to spend a spring evening.
Attend a spring festival. Shamrock the Block gets things going in this realm for Richmond, but that’s just the beginning of it. Put all 15+ of these spring festivals on your must-go list.
Take a hot air balloon ride. Is there a better way to celebrate the post-winter resurgence of color than by flying over town in an also-colorful hot air balloon? Balloons Over Virginia in Ashland has you covered there, but if you’d like to stay on the ground while taking in the magic of spring, the Richmond Hot Air Balloon Festival and (tentatively!) Henrico SkyGlow are where you want to be.
Walk, jog, run, or cheer on the Monument Avenue 10k. It’s one of our favorite events of the year, and there’s truly no single or right way to participate.
