The First Friday Art Trolley
May

6:00 PM18:00

The First Friday Art Trolley

Hop on for an interactive expedition through the Downtown Arts District! The First Friday Art Trolley is a new way to experience Broad Street during select First Fridays. It’s less about the destination and more about the journey!

When is the First Friday Art Trolley?

September 5, 2025 | 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
October 3, 2025 | 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
April 3, 2026 | 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
May 1, 2026 | 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Click each of the dates above for more info on what activities will be happening on the trolley.

What is the First Friday Art Trolley?

The First Friday Art Trolley is a free interactive trolley experience during select First Fridays. Taking place in September and October 2025, and again in April and May 2026, each month, passengers can expect something different when they hop on board. From drag trivia to trolley cabaret, you never know what you might stumble upon. Stay on the trolley for as long as you want, participate if you feel inspired, and then hop off when you’re ready to explore more of the Arts District.

Why should I hop on the First Friday Art Trolley?

This is your opportunity to discover more of Downtown Richmond! The Arts District—stretching along historic Broad Street—is bursting with galleries, live entertainment, cultural landmarks, restaurants, and shops that fuel the city’s creative heartbeat. Each month, the trolley spotlights a different organization shaping Richmond’s vibrant arts and culture scene, giving you a fresh reason to ride, explore, and celebrate the city in motion.

Where can I get on the First Friday Art Trolley?

6th and Broad Street Parking Lot (free parking with code)
Virginia Repertory Theatre
Institute for Contemporary Art
Elegba Folklore Society

The trolley makes the loop about every 25 minutes. You can hop on or off at any of the stops and see what they’re doing for First Fridays!

The trolley will make the final loop between 7:30 – 8:00 p.m. and we encourage passengers to get off at their preferred stop during this time.

If you are interested in parking at the 6th and Broad Street parking lot and hopping on the trolley, we anticipate the first pickup time to be around 6:00 p.m. and the last drop-off time to be at 8:00 p.m.

Music at Maymont: Punch Brothers

Punch Brothers comes to Music at Maymont for a very special evening on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Tickets on sale now!

Punch Brothers, formed in 2006, are a virtuosic quintet featuring mandolinist Chris Thile, guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjoist Noam Pikelny, and violinist Brittany Haas. Known for pushing the boundaries of acoustic music, the band has garnered critical acclaim, including a Grammy for Best Folk Album for All Ashore (2018). The Washington Post applauded them for taking "bluegrass to its next evolutionary stage, drawing equal inspiration from the brain and the heart." Over the years, they've become pioneers in modern string music, with albums like Antifogmatic (2010), Who's Feeling Young Now (2012) and The Phosphorescent Blues (2015) showcasing their genre-defying sound. Rolling Stone praised their work as "wild virtuosity used for more than just virtuosity," cementing their reputation as trailblazers in contemporary acoustic music. Most Recently, Punch Brothers have been focused on their new musical variety show, "The Energy Curfew Music Hour," with seasons one and two available on Audible and all podcasting platforms.

Punch Brothers have partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 per ticket goes to supporting organizations working for equity, access, and dignity for all. www.plus1.org

Lace Up for Firearm Safety Virtual 5K
Jun

to Jun 7

Lace Up for Firearm Safety Virtual 5K

Every step helps raise awareness about safe firearm storage and preventing children’s access to firearms.

Join us June 1-7 by walking, running, or participating from anywhere while supporting efforts to keep children and families safe.

How It Works

  1. Register for the virtual 5K with a $20 donation.

  2. Create a fundraiser page and invite your family, friends and colleagues to support your miles.

  3. Lace up your shoes for a 5k (3.1 miles) anytime between June 1-7. You have two ways to move:

    • In-Person:  Join our Community Walk at  Deep Run Park in Henrico, VA  on Saturday, June 6th  from 9am-12pm.

    • Virtually:  Complete your miles anywhere – your neighborhood, a local trail, or even a treadmill!

  4. Wear orange and share your photos, tagging @vachildcare to spread the message. Post your photos on social media using #LaceUp4FirearmSafety to show Virginia that safe storage saves lives.

Why We Lace Up

Firearms are a leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. By raising awareness about safe storage and responsible firearm practices, we can help prevent tragedies and keep children safe.

Your contribution does more than just sign you up for a 5k – you’re joining the mission to raise awareness and provide life-saving tools and information directly into the hands of Virginia families. Every registration includes:

  • A donation to Child Care Aware of Virginia

  • A high-quality firearm lock and educational materials provided to a Virginia caregiver

  • Individual fundraising page to share your story and why firearm safety matters to you

Family-Friendly Reminder: Children being pushed in a stroller are welcome and do not need to be registered. We encourage families to participate together!
