About the Exhibition: Julia Child’s insatiable curiosity and tenacious spirit drove her to endlessly try, test, prove and communicate how to make delicious food. Learning to cook empowered Julia and she in turn empowered others, profoundly transforming American cuisine and food culture. Julia Child: A Recipe for Life explores the key ingredients that led to Julia’s personal evolution and America’s culinary revolution.

Visitors will journey through Julia’s life, as she explored the world and discovered her sense of curiosity including the moment that ignited her love for French cuisine and inspired her career.

At the heart of the exhibition, Julia’s passion for teaching is explored through her meticulous process of recipe development for Mastering the Art of French Cooking and The French Chef, culminating with her legacy of inspiring chefs of all levels.

Key Experiences:

  • Interactive "The French Chef" television set

  • Video, audio, and photography documenting Julia, her distinctive voice, and her extraordinary contributions to the culinary world

  • Sounds and smells of Julia’s kitchen

  • Visitors can view and share memories of Julia’s legacy

Julia Child: A Recipe for Life is a touring exhibition produced and managed by FLYING FISH, developed in collaboration with Napa Valley Museum, under the rights granted by The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and The Schlesinger Library Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University, and generously supported by Oceania Cruises.

RICHMOND SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL - Much Ado About Nothing

SOME CUPID KILLS WITH ARROWS, SOME WITH TRAPS...

Kicking off the Richmond Shakespeare Festival at Agecroft Hall is Shakespeare’s beloved Much Ado About Nothing. Masquerades reveal as much as they hide in this hilarious comedy. There is no comedic couple quite as beguiling as Beatrice and Benedick. Wielding words as both weapon and armor (but always with a charming, effervescent glint), their banter is code for so many things - part longing, part loathing, part love. All of it a threat to their carefully cultivated swag. Their chemistry is a barely restrained force of nature. It may just break its bindings. A perpetual Shakespearean favorite; rich, uplifting and oh-so-funny.

Hammers & Ales

Experience the power of community at Hammers & Ales, our half-day give-back event in the picturesque Dorey Park & Recreation Center (NEW LOCATION) on Saturday, June 8th from 2 PM - 5 PM.

This unique give-back experience revolves around teams coming together to hand-build outdoor furniture, selecting from either picnic tables or park benches. ToolBank provides all the necessary materials, tools, and expert guidance.

The tangible results? We donate every picnic table or park bench built by YOU to Henrico Public Schools & Capital Region Land Conservancy. A few hours spent using power tools and bonding with your crew transforms into a lasting impact within your community for current and future generations to enjoy.

But it's not just about the tools and building materials. Hammers & Ales is an outdoor celebration featuring music, local craft beverages, food trucks, tool-themed games, and even a splash pad! Come be a part of something bigger in 2024 - impact your community with one swing of the hammer at a time.

RICHMOND SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL - Doctor Faustus

HE THAT LOVES PLEASURE MUST FOR PLEASURE FALL...

A brilliant but embittered academic, Doctor Faustus is a solitary scholar who has exhausted the confines of human knowledge. Frustrated with the futility of religion, law, and science he is desperate for a deeper understanding of the universe – and for the worldwide fame that it will bring. Risking everything, he conjures the demon Mephistophilis and asks him to strike a deal with Lucifer. Twenty four years of absolute knowledge and infinite power in exchange for his soul. Despite being tormented by doubt, Faustus agrees to the deal and signs in blood. But as he begins to revel in his new powers, the world around him starts to collapse and the clock inexorably counts down to the final moment of reckoning.
