Things We're Way Loving Right Now: JUNE 2025

Think of this series like a Richmond-y LIKEtoKNOW.it kinda thing — but ~this is NOT an ad~.

Skincare prep favorites

I recently popped into Habit Med Spa + Facial Bar for a little glow-up before my wedding last month, and wow — it was magical. My go-to combo is a round of dermaplaning and Microinfusion Gold Therapy, and it totally delivered. My skin felt so smooth, hydrated, and ready for the big day. In case you’re unfamiliar with either service:

  • Dermaplaning involves gently exfoliating the skin with a sterile, surgical blade to remove dead skin cells and fine hairs, resulting in baby-soft skin and the perfect base for flawless makeup application

  • Microinfusion Gold Therapy offers a customized cocktail is blended and gently stamped into the skin through 24K needles that are thinner than a strand of hair. We use a blend of tox, fillers (hyaluronic acid), antioxidants, peptides, growth factors, and more to achieve the very best results – and each blend is personalized to meet your skin's needs.

Whether you’re getting ready for a wedding, engagement shoot, bridal shower, or any other special event, my go-to combo is a game-changer, but Habit also offers free consultations to create a plan that fits your own skin goals and your budget, too.

Noteworthy eats

I’m always out and about, getting to enjoy the city’s many delish bites and sips, but here are some particular standouts for me recently:

  • Julio’s Bagel Shop: I’m still dreaming about this spot’s everything bagel.

  • Little Nickel: The Hawaiian Nachos are a must-order and messy in the best way.

  • Bacchus: The Date Night Deal = two pastas and a bottle of wine for $45!

  • Susie’s: Order the Rachel (turkey, Swiss, coleslaw, Russian dressing on marbled rye) — just trust me on this one.

Maymont

One of my absolute favorite places in Richmond is Maymont. This 100-acre estate is pure magic; there’s just something special every time I go. On our most recent visit, we wandered through the blooming Italian Garden, soaked up the peaceful vibes in the Japanese Garden, and stopped by the Maymont Farm to meet Maddie the calf. We then wrapped it all up with a picnic on the sunny lawn, and honestly? It was the perfect spring day.

Shyndigz

I’d focus on the Oatmeal Cream Pies here — and they are something to write home about — but the thing is: There are *so* many things to love about Shyndigz, I thought I’d do a general highlight. The new(ish) cozy-cute location is part dessert shop, part cafe, part gift shop, and I love looking around at all the goodies whenever I go. The most recent time around, I noticed they sell their own chocolate cake mix. How cute would that be, along with a supply of different baking supplies, as part of a gift bag for your baking-loving friend? (Answer: Extremely cute.)

Twin Hickory Park & Recreation Center

This spot may have my favorite splash pad around. It’s spacious, with lots of little fountain features, and it’s steps away from a (mostly shaded!) playground, too. On my family’s most recent visits, we’ve spent time running back and forth between both the water area and play area, and it’s a great way for the kiddos to burn some energy, while staying cool and enjoying some fresh air.

But this area offers even more than those two options for a fun morning or afternoon. There are walking trails and the Twin Hickory Library very nearby, and if you want to make an extended visit of it all, the space offers multiple covered shelters for you to unpack a cooler, have lunch, and stay a while.
