Things We're Way Loving Right Now

Think of this series like a Richmond-y LIKEtoKNOW.it kinda thing — but ~this is NOT an ad~.

Faux Fur Coat
I snagged my new faux fur at the holiday vintage market at the Veil Brewing Co this past December, and it has officially become my whole personality. It’s from local vendor Bad Tourist Vintage, and now I’m fully hooked. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to get more into vintage shopping and buying — so now you know another great spot for it, in case that’s on your list, too.

Date Night Deal at Hotel Greene
I’ve always had an obsession with Hotel Greene, and Holly and I finally went on a Thursday night to test it out as a date spot — and it did not disappoint. From 5 - 9 pm, the place offers a perfect-for-two experience: mini golf, dinner, and drinks. You choose two plates, each paired with a beer or glass of wine, then make your way through the hotel for one of the most charming (and competitive) dates in the city. All for $55!

Väsen Brewing Co - Forest Hill
As a wine lover, I always appreciate a brewery that offers more than just beer, and the new Väsen taproom in Forest Hill does exactly that. Designed as a true neighborhood landing spot, it’s perfect for post-trail hangs, family meetups, and James River adventures. When you go, you can expect Väsen beers, wine, and draft cocktails, plus Kobop’s first brick-and-mortar inside the space — serving Korean tacos, bao buns, and Korean fried chicken (with vegan and gluten-free options, too!).

Richmond City Hall’s Observation Deck
When I wrote 12 UNDERRATED THINGS TO ENJOY IN THE RICHMOND AREA FOR UNDER $15(ISH) — which still checks out, BTW — I wanted to include this little nugget, but it was closed. During the pandemic, the 18th floor, and its amazing city views, closed to the general public along with just about everything else. But *now*, nearly six years later, this local gem is accessible to us Richmonders yet again. For FREE! That’s very under 15 bucks. Which I way love even more.

Napa Kitchen & Wine
Sadly, the holiday pop-ups around town have come down for the season, but luckily, most spots’ delish menus still exist. We checked out Napa Kitchen & Wine’s Winter Wonderland toward the end of December, and my order of the Churrasco Steak is really what’s been on my mind ever since. The marinated USDA-choice black angus flat iron cut comes with chimichurri on top and crispy herb-fried potatoes plus elote on the side. It’s something else — and something you can order long after the elves have packed up the restaurant’s barstool Santa hats.

Andre’ Julius
We’re still wrapping up our complete experience at Andre’ Julis — perhaps Paige can round us out next month with an Andre’ Julius: Pt 2 — but I can tell you for certain that our Andre’ Julius: Pt 1 experience this month was OUTSTANDING. The shop owner and designer, Andre’ McLaughlin, is working with us on custom women’s suits, and from talking through our style inspirations to guiding us on what buttons and linings to choose for our fits, it’s been fabulous to watch him start creating our looks. I settled on a dark green number with a slim cut, and I’m already so excited to see the final product a few weeks down the road. If you have a wedding or other special event coming up this year, I have no doubt he’s your guy for the job. The man dresses NFL players! What couldn't he do, really??
