Things We're Way Loving Right Now: August 2025

Think of this series like a Richmond-y LIKEtoKNOW.it kinda thing — but ~this is NOT an ad~.

Hotel Greene

A few weeks ago, my sisters were in town, and as always, I took them to Hotel Greene — my go-to indoor activity when it’s raining or just too hot to be outside. This “highfalutin” 13-hole mini-golf course is located inside the historic John Marshall Hotel on E Franklin St in downtown Richmond. But Hotel Greene isn’t your average mini-golf spot. The experience starts as soon as you “check in” at the front desk. From there, you can grab a cocktail or bite from the lobby bar, pick up your putter and ball, and begin your round. The course winds through a whimsically staged “hotel,” complete with hallways, rooms, and quirky peep-hole art installations you won’t want to miss.

Beyond golf, the lobby bar offers food and drinks with several themed specials throughout the week, like:

  • Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am - 2 pm includes a savory or sweet meal and a round of golf for $25

  • Date Night Thursdays from 5 - 9 pm includes dinner, a glass of beer or wine, and a round of golf for $55 per couple

  • Happy Hour runs weeknights from 5 - 7 pm with drink specials

Whether you're entertaining out-of-town guests or just looking for a unique local outing, Hotel Greene is a playful (and air-conditioned) escape that delivers every time.

Frida Dining Experiences

In celebration of Frida: Beyond the Myth at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, a handful of local Mexican restaurants are joining in to bring the spirit of Frida Kahlo beyond the gallery walls and onto your plate. The museum has partnered with some of the city’s most beloved spots — Amuse at VMFA, Conejo, Little Mexico, Lolita’s, and Kahlo’s — each offering a Frida-inspired dish or cocktail available throughout the run of the exhibition. It's a delicious way to extend the experience and immerse yourself in the world of Frida Kahlo through food and drink.

Holly and I visited Amuse to kick things off and have been making our way through the rest of the list this summer. I love how this collaboration weaves through the city, creating a colorful, cultural celebration that quite literally paints the town Frida. Enjoy it yourself, now through September 26.

Wong’s Tacos

My husband and I went on a date night to this new-to-us spot, and it was a 10/10 experience. From EAT Restaurant Partners — who’ve brought us other Richmond faves like Boulevard Burger & Brew and Pizza & Beer of Richmond — Wong’s Tacos blends Chinese and Mexican flavors. We ordered the Crispy Potstickers and Homemade Chorizo Eggs Rolls to start, then went for some tacos: the Char Siu Pork Belly, Crispy Kung Pao Chicken, Chile Lime Chicken, and Shrimp Tempura, to be exact. WOW. Drool-worthy. The space is wide open and casual, also, so if you’re going for a non-fussy but extremely delish meal out, this is your ticket.

Metro Richmond Zoo

You’ve seen our Reel covering the Galapagos Tortoise Experience (right?), but getting to do that reminded me of how much of a gem Metro Richmond Zoo is altogether, so I wanted to remind you, too. Not only can you add that animal encounter — and these others — to your admission ticket, but if you’re moreso in the mood to just mosey around, there’s plenty to see while you do. The campus is situated on 150 acres of land, caring for 2,000 animals representing 190 species, and it’s clean and clearly well-loved by its staff. My favorite beauts to marvel over are the flamingos and giraffes. True stunners.

Pelikan Print Co.

We were delighted to see local artist Katie Pelikan’s whimsical art featured throughout Richmond mag’s 2025 Best & Worst issue — including an illustration to rep our own biz (p. 86!) — and that then led me to even more must-see pieces from the talent. Like, I… need to snag this extremely adorable Tiger Embroidered Hat as soon as her Etsy shop reopens August 17? Find her stuff there and at shops and pop-ups around town.
