Wine Bars
Richmond’s wine bars range from intimate natural wine spaces to full-service restaurants with extensive wine lists.
What’s a Corkage Fee?
A corkage fee is a small charge applied when you open a bottle on-site from a wine bar or wine shop’s retail selection to enjoy on premises, or when you bring your own special bottle to enjoy at a restaurant. In this guide, corkage fees are included so you know what to expect when purchasing a bottle and drinking it onsite at the wine bars listed below.
Restaurants typically mark up wine about 2–3x the retail price, so when you’re at a wine bar and see bottles on the shelf, you’re looking at retail pricing—not restaurant pricing. The corkage fee helps offset the difference and keeps things more accessible overall. It also covers service elements like glassware, opening and pouring the bottle, and maintaining a welcoming on-site experience. Ultimately, it allows wine shops and bars to balance retail sales with hospitality—giving guests the option to take a bottle home or enjoy it in a relaxed, social setting.
