There really is nothing better than a good farmers market haul. Lucky for us, you’re never too far from an amazing farmers market in Richmond. Grab your reusable tote and support our local farmers and makers at one of these RVA markets.

From weekday to weekend market options, here’s everything you need to plan your next market trip.

South of the James Farmers Market (now at Forest Hill Park on Sundays)


Perhaps the best-known of all of Richmond’s farmers markets, this is one you don’t want to miss!

The South of the James Market was briefly relocated North of the James to Bryan Park, but has officially returned to its original Forest Hill Park location. The only catch is that this market now takes place on Sunday mornings from 10 am - 1 pm.

What you’ll find here: produce, baked goods, coffee, food trucks, meats, dairy, eggs, pasta, cider, dog treats, kombucha, honey, arts, and more.

RVA BIG Market (now at Bryan Park on Saturdays)


The RVA Big Market is a hot spot to hang out on the weekend (and for good reason). Who doesn’t love a dog-friendly market to take a furry friend and spend a few hours roaming this enormous market? It opens weekly on Saturdays from 8 am - 12 pm.

What you’ll find here: produce, baked goods, coffee, food trucks, meats, dairy, eggs, pasta, cider, dog treats, kombucha, honey, arts, and more.

Location: 4308 Hermitage Rd (Lakeside)


OnTheSquareVA Farmer’s Market


A bustling lunchtime market, the aroma of local dishes fills the air, and an array of fresh produce and artisanal treats beckon you with their vibrant colors and flavors. 

This market is only open on Thursday afternoons from May until September. It’s the perfect place to pop by for lunch.

What you’ll find here: a diverse assortment of locally sourced goodies and scrumptious lunches provided by esteemed local food vendors.

Location: 109 Governor St (Capitol District)


Richmond Night Market


Every second Saturday from 5pm until 9pm through December, the Richmond Night Market takes over the square at 17th Street. Shop artisanal products and handcrafted items while enjoying live music and a large maker space. 

What you’ll find here: local goodies, kids’ activities, live music, and live art performances

Lakeside Farmers Market


Another mid-week option, the Lakeside Farmers Market operates year-round on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  You’ll find the market under the covered pavilions at the Lakeside Towne Center. Market hours are from 9 am –12 pm on Saturdays and from 9 am – 2 pm on Wednesdays.

What you’ll find here: produce, meats, eggs, honey, cheeses, and hand-crafted items.

Farmers Market @ St. Stephens


Another year-round market, the Farmers Market @ St. Stephens is held each Saturday from 8 am – 12 pm (summer hours) and 9 am – 12 pm (winter hours) in the parking lot of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Westhampton. Offering fresh produce and hand-made goods from local vendors, this is a great place to support our local farmers and small businesses! Visit their website for a list of vendors and recipes to try with your market haul. 

What you’ll find here: produce, baked goods, meats, eggs, dairy, flowers, art, hummus, tempeh, dog and cat treats, jewelry, plants, kombucha, and more.

Birdhouse Farmers Market


If a mid-week market is more your vibe, don’t miss the Birdhouse Farmers Market in Petronius S. Jones Park located in Randolph.

Open on Tuesday evenings from 3 – 6:30 pm, May through November, this market offers goods from a diverse mix of local farm and food vendors. They also offer an Online Farmers Market where you can shop ahead for pick-up on Tuesday from 4 – 6 pm.

What you’ll find here: live music, food trucks, produce, baked goods, honey, coffee, meats, dairy, eggs, tempeh, frozen custard, water kefir, and more.

RVA Black Farmers Market


RVA Black Farmers Market debuted in 2020 and is dedicated to supporting Black growers and creators while also providing the surrounding community with access to fresh food. 

The RVA Black Farmers Market is held every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 10 am - 3 pm.

What you’ll find here: produce, arts, crafts, jewelry, baked goods, and vegan dishes.

Carytown Farmers Market


Sunday markets are hard to come by in RVA, which makes Carytown Farmers Market extra special! 

Open from 9 am – 1 pm on Sundays from May to November, they offer over 30 vendors as well as food trucks. The market’s location in the parking lot outside of City Stadium makes it super accessible with plenty of free parking available.

What you’ll find here: produce, baked goods, flowers, coffee, jewelry, art, jerky, hot sauce, honey, meats, dairy, and more.

Huguenot-Robious Farmers’ Market at the Great Big Greenhouse


For our Southside friends, the Huguenot-Robious Farmers’ Market operates year-round at The Great Big Greenhouse located in the Huguenot Village Shopping Center. Visit them on Thursdays from 10 am – 2 pm and grab some new plants at the greenhouse while you’re at it! The market is dog-friendly and has plenty of parking. 

What you’ll find here: produce, honey, shaved ice, baked goods, hand-crafted items, meats, dairy, and more.

West End Farmers Market


If you’re in the West End, check out the West End Farmers Market at Discovery United Methodist Church. All of their vendors produce or make their products within 100 miles of Richmond. It doesn’t get much more local than that! They operate year-round on Saturdays from 9 am – 12 pm.  

What you’ll find here: produce, baked goods, coffee, meats, eggs, kombucha, arts, food trucks, and more.

Dorey Park Farmers Market


Prefer a market you can bike to? End your ride on the Virginia Capital Trail with a stop at the Dorey Park Farmers Market. Located just off the trail in Dorey Park, the market is held on Saturdays from June – October from 9 am – 12 pm.   

What you’ll find here: honey, produce, jam, live music, coffee, food trucks, flowers, and more.

Pizza Bones Farmers Market


Just about every (nice-weather) Thursday, Pizza Bones hosts a farmers market on its patio, featuring the likes of Shine Farms and other local vendors. Go for the goods, stay for the pizza and wine.

What you’ll find here: flowers, produce, and more.

Location: 2314 Jefferson Ave (Church Hill)


Northside Farmers Market

On Thursday afternoons from June through November, the Northside Farmers Market is up and running. It partners with “local Virginia farmers to purchase freshly harvested and culturally relevant produce in bulk midweek and provide cold storage to extend produce freshness to be sold on the weekend.”
