One of Richmond’s most beloved holiday traditions, The Miracle of Christmas – Live at the Zoo, returns for its 23rd year.

The Miracle of Christmas will take place December 20, 21, and 22, with three performances each evening at 7:00, 7:45, and 8:30 PM. Zoo gates open at 6:15 PM. Admission and parking are free for all guests.

For more than two decades, this special event has been our gift to the community, welcoming thousands of families each year to celebrate the season together.

This 20-minute live nativity pageant brings the Christmas story to life through period-inspired sets, costumed cast members, and live animals. Zoo animals, including Bactrian camels, goats, sheep, and a donkey, help recreate scenes from over 2,000 years ago, creating a truly immersive experience. Following each performance, guests are invited to meet the cast and animals.

Before each show, local churches and community groups will provide live musical performances.

The nativity is held outdoors at the Metro Richmond Zoo, located at 8300 Beaver Bridge Road, Moseley, VA 23120.

Doughnuts and hot chocolate will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting local charities. In addition, the zoo will host a canned food drive to support the Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center. Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which may be dropped off at collection boxes near the zoo entrance.

We are grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who donate their time and talents each year to make this meaningful tradition possible.
