Join us Friday, September 12th from 5-8pm for the opening of  elov —a new exhibition brought to you by mother-son duo Sally and Pierre Bowring. 

Pierre Bowring
"Pierre Bowring began his creative journey as an abstract painter during high school and college, following in the footsteps of his mother, also an abstract artist. Surrounded by art from an early age, he eventually discovered glassblowing while studying at Virginia Commonwealth University. After graduation, however, he stepped away from the craft for nearly six years to pursue his dream of becoming a chef.
 

It wasn’t until meeting his wife, Jennaway, and doing some soul-searching that Bowring found his way back to glass; rekindling his passion at the Penland School of Craft. Today, he lives in East Chatham, NY, where he and his family have built a home and studio. He views his practice as a family-run endeavor, with form and color serving as the central forces that guide his work."

Sally Bowring
"As an artist working primarily with acrylic paint, Sally Bowring creates still life compositions that embrace the beauty of decomposition and deconstruction. Her work invites viewers into an intimate exploration of domestic objects—each piece transformed through generous color, shape, and pattern.

In these paintings, the aim is to abstract the familiar, allowing forms to dissolve and emerge, encouraging the viewer to fill in the gaps with their own interpretations. This interaction fosters a sense of intimacy and connection, as personal narratives intertwine with artistic vision.

The interplay of color is central to Bowring’s practice; vibrant hues evoke emotion and depth, while contrasting patterns create visual rhythm. Through this lens, she seeks to capture the essence of love and familiarity in our everyday surroundings, revealing the hidden stories within seemingly mundane objects.

Ultimately, this body of work is an invitation to reflect on the beauty of the overlooked, transforming domestic spaces into realms of abstraction where memory and emotion converge. Bowring hopes to inspire viewers to find their own connections within these decomposed forms, celebrating the intimate dance between the familiar and the abstract."

elov  by Sally and Pierre Bowring will be on view in the Main Gallery from September 12 -November 1, 2025. The show will be accompanied by a continuation of Sally Bowring's work on display in our Pink Gallery.
